Inspired by somebody on Facebook (can't recall his name) who makes customized action figures in blisters for 501'st members TD #. He also makes absurd and hilarious fake blisters, like the skeleton version of dead uncle lars and aunt beru. I decided to make one for my good friend Rob Petkau from Genesis Custom Sabers as a surprise gift.
I started of an Indiana Jones figure which matched fairly well his pants and jackets when appearing in one his famous Snowmen Video (a must see)
A fun project to make, short break from electronics and taking me back to my (little) model painting roots. Artwork made in illustrator based on a low res cardback scan I've found on the web. Model made using an Indiana Jones body and The Clone Wars Obiwan (thank you Rob for wearing a beard). Trimmed hair and beard with an x-acto, milliput in various places to create the jacket. Saber is qTip and toothpicks.
I made a custom (cheap and dirty) vacuum forming table to create the blister / bubble. I only had acetate which wasn't the easiest plastic to start with, but I'll try again soon using PETglass.
I didn't dare touching up the eyes, too dangerous, but I tackled the challenge of painting the TCSS patch / logo on the jacket. The Indy body got the forearms filled with milliput epoxy clay since indy was wearing a shirt and I wanted to get closer to a jacket look.
The crossguard saber, well, because of all the controversy, because I wanted this to be a fictive ep 7 thingie and because I totally envisioned rob roaming in the snow like in the trailer, in the search of a snowman to kill.
But I've used some ref pictures of rob's Ascend sabers for the hilt paint scheme. It's another gimmick hidden in the background, like a 3rd layer easter egg but... I like details :-)
During the process, I also enjoyed the fun of translation and more english jokes / pun, like what is written at the bottom of the cardback.
I admit I got a little nerdgasm when I realized I could use Plecter instead of Kenner, and making that little curly thing next to the P was my Illustrator best part.
