The cool-tape is a very efficient replacement for the thermal grease (compound) used for transfering the heat of the luxeon backplate to the heatsink or the blade mount. Moreover, certain red and red-orange luxeon have an isolation defect and the backplate is then connected to a terminal of the LED, creating ground loops or other electrical problems. The cool-tape allows to isolate the LED from the rest of the saber.
